Varistors Meaning

Varistors are electronic components that are widely used to protect sensitive electronic devices from voltage spikes and surges. These voltage-resistant devices can be found in various appliances and equipment, such as televisions, computers, and power supplies. The main function of a varistor is to regulate and stabilize voltage levels by absorbing excess electrical energy when there is a surge in the voltage. They act as a safety valve, preventing damage to the electronic components by diverting the excessive voltage to ground. Varistors are designed to have a high resistance at normal voltage levels, allowing the normal flow of electrical current. However, when the voltage exceeds its specified limit, the resistance of the varistor drops, effectively creating a short circuit and absorbing the extra voltage. With their compact size and high energy handling capability, varistors are essential for protecting electronic devices from power fluctuations and ensuring their long-term reliability. Whether it is for industrial applications or domestic appliances, varistors are an indispensable component for electrical protection.
